IMF Director: Trump is right in many ways

IMF Director Christine Lagarde said there should be more "economic openness" to fight populism, in an interview with the French newspaper Les Echos published on Friday.
In response to the newspaper's question, Lagarde expressed "deep concern about the political development in the world which could lead to serious economic consequences."
She stressed that the confrontation of populism is "more open".

"The important thing is that globalization must evolve in a different way, with better respect for the rules of the game and the environment," Lagarde said.

"Free competition must be fair in all areas, and I am pleased that the Chinese authorities have recently announced their willingness to address all issues," she said.

"The election has recently shown a populist and appetizing upsurge of authoritarian regimes, right and left, which is truly troubling," she said.

Still, Lagarde does not think there is a scenario for the disintegration of the euro zone.
