Those looking to give their children a strong nationality may look for another destination for their children than the United States, following recent US President Donald Trump's comments on the possibility of halting the granting of citizenship to non-citizen parents on US soil.
Trump spoke again on Wednesday when he said the US Constitution "does not guarantee the right to citizenship of anyone born in the United States," threatening that he "will go ahead with his efforts to end it."
"What is known as the right to citizenship by virtue of birth, which costs our country billions of dollars and oppresses our citizens a lot, will end in one way or another, this is not guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment," Trump wrote in a tweet on Twitter.
On Tuesday, Trump revealed his intention to issue an executive order to revoke citizenship to children born on US territory.
In a special interview with Axios on HBO, the president said that "I always think that such a decision would require a constitutional amendment, but it was discovered that the president could issue an executive order in this regard."
Article 14 of the US Constitution states that "all persons born in or in the United States of America and who are subject to its jurisdiction are citizens of the United States and citizens of the State in which they reside."
The decision is expected to raise a lot of controversy and face judicial complications in the courts, as happened with Trump's previous attempt to prevent the citizens of eight countries from entering the United States.
Conservative politicians, on the other hand, believe that the Fourteenth Amendment is for children born to parents who have permanent residence in the United States, not the children of illegal immigrants, for example, or those who visit the United States for a short time.
