Arda Tauran .. the latest victims of the "failed coup against Erdogan"


Turkey's arrest and investigation campaigns continue against the backdrop of the country's failed coup in the summer of 2016. The last "victims" in these campaigns are football stars, including Turkish national midfielder Arda Tauran.

 The investigation, in addition to Tauran, included the players ordered by Blozoglu, Ochan Boruk and Bulent Korkmaz, Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported on local media.

Although not officially affiliated with the Gulen movement, Turkish players face charges of knowingly helping the movement without being subjected to coercion.

The Turkish authorities are currently considering whether the charges are genuine. They will be subject to questioning before the court decides to pursue the case. The judicial authorities have separated the file of each of the players to be dealt with separately.

The Turkish judiciary has already investigated with six other Turkish players on the pretext of belonging to the Fathallah Gulen movement. They have admitted the names of a number of other players who said they are connected to the movement. Each of these six faces sentences of up to 22.5 years each.

These judicial investigations increase the Turan crisis, which currently faces the risk of 12 and a half years' imprisonment after being accused of sexual harassment, unlawful possession of arms and deliberate assault resulting in injuries.

Turan entered a brawl last week with local singer Berkai Shaheen as he emerged from a nightclub after his wife accused him of harassing her, local media reported.

The sources added that the quarrel ended with the breaking of the singer's nose.

The newspaper "Khobar Turk" that Turan then went to the hospital where he was treating Shaheen carrying a pistol, and begged the latter to shoot him and his forgiveness.

 According to the private news agency "DIC", was charged with "insult" to Shaheen, who also faces the penalty of imprisonment for two years.

Turan was summoned last Thursday to testify before the Turkish police, the Anatolia news agency reported, while the daily Hurriyet reported his release after being questioned for three hours.

The 31-year-old is one of the best known Turkish footballers and is known for his bad behavior outside football. He was suspended for 16 games last May by the Turkish football authorities, after a referee was jostled and insulted during a match.

Toran moved last season on loan to Pakak Shahir after a failed attempt at Barcelona, ​​where he failed to impose himself essential, and Turan fought 100 caps for his country.
