City flexes its muscles with a dazzling victory in the Shakhtar stronghold

Manchester City have begun to prove their worth as a true candidate for the Champions League after becoming the first English team to win the Shakhtar Donetsk stronghold in a continental competition with a 3-0 win in Group F in Kharkiv.
Citi, who started their Champions League campaign, have beaten their only home defeat of Olympique Lyon this season thanks to goals from David Silva, Emeric Laporte and substitute Bernardo Silva.

What seemed difficult after a 1700-mile trip to visit the champion of Ukraine, who beat Pep Guardiola in the group stage last year, came easy today after leading David Silva City to dominate.

Citi could have scored more goals but the result was enough to top the group with six points, a point behind Lyon, who tied 3-3 with Hoffenheim with two points, such as Shakhtar.

With Kevin De Bruin back in the Premier League squad for the first time this season, City continued to have strong performances and control from the start.

In the first half-hour, Algerian Riyad Mehrez almost scored two goals before making an opportunity for Silva to hit the crossbar.

But the Spanish maestro did not miss the goal after that and struck a great ball with his left foot and opened the scoring after half an hour.

Five minutes later, De Bruyne took a corner from the unmarked LaPort to double the lead.

Despite Shakhtar's pressure, Citi could have added three more goals in the first 12 minutes in the second half.

Bernardo Silva spent 90 seconds on the pitch after substituting a brilliant substitute de Bruin before scoring a 71-minute pass.

This is Shakhtar's first defeat in 12 games in all competitions to reduce his chances of reaching the knockout stages.
