"Slow down" old hardware fine Apple and Samsung millions
Italian authorities on Wednesday fined Apple and Samsung millions of dollars for what the Market Protection and Competition Authority said in its statement of practices that violated consumer rights.
The reasons for the high fines for the companies' insistence were on users to update to new software that later slowed down older phones, and did not tell users important information about their devices in Apple's case.
Apple received two grams, the first of 5 million euros because of the impact of some of the phones "iPhone 6" after the update to the operating system, "iOS 10", originally designed to the phone "iPhone 7," and after providing Apple to repair the problem did not tell users that it will be a heavy burden on Old phone processors and batteries.
The second fine of 5 million euros is also due to Apple not providing detailed information about its batteries, such as battery life, protection procedures and how to replace them, according to the specialized technology website The Virg.
As for Samsung, it was punished with a similar fine after the Android version of Marshallu caused significant problems on the NUT 4 phones. The version was originally designed for Notte 7 phones.
According to the media, the Korean company expressed its dissatisfaction with the decision of the Italian body, stressing that it will submit an appeal to the decision.
Last year, Apple admitted to slowing down some of the iPhone's old phones, saying it wanted to extend hardware longevity, apologizing at the same time to users for the "misunderstanding" caused by that action.
The decision of the two companies to urge users to update the latest software on their old machines caused serious failures and significantly reduced performance, prompting the replacement of these devices later.
