German loan and aid agreement for Jordan
Jordan and Germany signed agreements on Tuesday to provide 462 million euros (about $ 528 million) in loans, grants and aid to Syria to support Syria's water, education, budget and refugee sectors.
The aid was approved during the annual Jordanian-German government talks on development cooperation for the current year, which ended Tuesday in Berlin.
According to AFP, a Jordanian government statement said the talks resulted in the signing of a record of the talks, which included the allocation of 462 million euros in new aid, grants and technical assistance, soft loans to finance development projects and grants to support Syrian refugees.
The agreement was signed by Jordanian Minister of Planning Marie Kawar and German Minister of State for Economic Cooperation Martin Jager.
Commending the "strategic partnership with Germany," Kawar thanked the Government and people of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for their assistance to Jordan, which contributed to the implementation of a number of priority projects, as well as additional assistance to meet the needs of host communities.
The Kingdom's economy, which is facing difficult economic conditions, has a global debt of about $ 40 billion, as well as the scarcity of natural resources, largely to aid, especially from the United States and the European Union.
Jordan hosts about 650,000 Syrian refugees registered with the United Nations, while Oman estimates the number of people who have resorted to the country about 1.3 million since the outbreak of the Syrian conflict in 2011.
Oman says the cost of hosting them has exceeded 10 billion dollars.
