Gold rises to 12-week high

Gold prices jumped nearly 1 percent on Monday, hitting a 12-week high as Asian stocks retreated and investors caught up with the effects of the China-US trade war and raised US interest rates.
At 07:41 GMT, the spot price of gold was up 0.9 percent at $ 1228.24 an ounce. Prices peaked at $ 1229.18, the strongest since July 26.

US gold futures were up 0.8 percent at $ 1231.80 an ounce.

"There is a huge change in sentiment when it comes to yellow metal because of its role as a safe haven here," said Naeem Aslam, market analyst at Think Markets UK.

"Gold at its current level is very attractive in light of the uncertainty we are experiencing."

Platinum rose 0.3 percent on spot trade to $ 838.95, having peaked at $ 844.50 an ounce earlier in the session since July 26.

Palladium rose 0.7 percent to $ 1,073.90. Silver rose 1 percent to $ 14.70 an ounce.
