My love: Trump's support for Israel does not affect American Jews
The positions of pro-Israel President Donald Trump have not been able to give him the support of American Jewish voters, according to a new poll.
The poll showed that 74 percent of Jews plan to vote for Democratic candidates in the next midterm elections to the US Congress in November. The number corresponds to similar voting patterns in previous elections.
In general, 75 percent of American Jews do not agree with President Trump's policies, especially on domestic issues such as immigration, taxes and health care.
The survey, published Wednesday on behalf of the nonpartisan Jewish Electoral Institute, 800 Jewish voters from different geographical backgrounds and regions were surveyed, with a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
Trump's foreign policy was no better. It was widely criticized for its dealings with anti-Semitism, Iran's nuclear deal, and the transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem. On the contrary, Israel strongly welcomed the embassy's move.
Although a slim majority agreed to the warmth of Trump's relations with Israel, only 6 percent said this would prompt them to think about supporting or supporting a Republican candidate. More than 60 percent of respondents rejected Trump's dealings with the Palestinians.
Although 92 percent of respondents were described as "pro-Israel," 59 percent said they were at least opposed to some Israeli government policies.
The poll's organizers said it underscored the loyalty of the Democratic Jewish voters to the Democratic Party, and that they had "negative ratings" about Trump as they appear to "prioritize domestic issues in deciding which candidate to support."
