Pakistan executes assassin and rapist "Zainab"

On Wednesday, Pakistani authorities executed an assassin and child killer Zainab Ansari, whose case was shaken worldwide last January because of her brutality.
Mohammad Omran Ali was executed in a prison in the central city of Lahore after being convicted of raping and killing eight children, including Zainab, after the court rejected his appeals, officials said.

Ali was executed, in the presence of Amin Ansari and the father of Zainab, and then handed over his body to his family.

The suspect was arrested two weeks after Zaynab's body was found in a garbage dump in the town of Kasur, near Lahore in January.

Police said the girl was raped and suffocated to death. Ali admitted to raping and killing seven other children during the investigation.

The killing of the girl Zainab Ansari triggered noisy demonstrations in Pakistan in which two were killed and others were wounded by police. Participants in the demonstrations accused the government of failing to arrest the criminal who had been free for years.

Police found the killer, Imran Ali, 24, one of the girl's neighbors, who appeared in a security surveillance camera shot on the day of her abduction as she walked quietly with a man.

Residents of the area said the killing of Zainab was the 12th such incident in a year.

Police investigators later said they had discovered that the DNA of the defendant Imran Ali matched samples taken from the bodies of eight girls, including Zainab.
