Penalty on Paris SG after the manipulation investigations
The European Football Confederation (UEFA) has opened an investigation into riots during the Paris St Germain 6-1 victory over Starr in the Champions League this month, a game that has raised suspicions of manipulation.
Paris Saint-Germain faces a penalty for setting fire to fireworks crowds and has been fined 20,000 euros ($ 22918) for the delay.
Both teams were charged after the match because of the riots and banquets at Park de Prince Stadium.
The French financial crimes prosecutor's office said last week it was investigating suspicions of fraud. Both teams denied any wrongdoing.
The French sports daily L'Equipe reported on its Web site last week that the European Football Federation has drawn the attention of the French authorities to the possibility of tampering with the outcome of the match based on information gleaned from a "reliable source".
The source told the continental union before the game that a senior Red Star official was planning, with the participation of a number of players, to put a bet close to 5 million euros on the victory of Paris Saint-Germain by five goals, which led to the opening of the investigation.
PSG beat Red Star 6-1.
The financial prosecutor's office said he could not confirm or deny the story of L'Equipe, but Red Star denied the allegations in the newspaper's report.
Paris Saint-Germain are third in Group C behind Liverpool but are equal in number, while Napoli are in the lead and Red Star take last.
