Real Madrid enters history with a negative record
MADRID (Reuters) - Real Madrid have managed to score their first goal in nearly three months, after beating Saturday's record of their longest-running goalless streak against Levante on Saturday.
The longest period without scoring any goal for Real had spanned 464 minutes, returning to the 1984-1985 season. The Real Madrid team arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in the 465th minute without a goal after 11 minutes into the second half of the game, a late zero 2-2 with two goals for Jose Luis Morales and Roger Marti from a penalty in the first half.
The match ended with Real losing to Levante 1-2, their fifth consecutive game without a win.
Real, however, managed to narrow the gap by Brazilian Marcelo in the 72nd minute, making his longest-term sterility period of 116 years, up to eight hours and one minute (481 minutes).
Real Madrid's last goal came on September 22 and Marco Ascensiono scored 1-0 at Espanyol in the fifth round of the Ligue 1 and failed to score four matches against Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Alves in the league and CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.
Real are currently in charge of the current season under coach Julien Lobetigui, who left Zinedine Zidane after the latter announced his departure at the end of last season, and in the absence of his top goals in the past years, Cristiano Ronaldo, who is moving this summer to Juventus.
