MADRID (Reuters) - Former French international striker Karim Benzema is suffering from a hamstring injury on Saturday in a match against Alaves (0-1) in the eighth phase of the Spanish Liga.
"He was diagnosed with a ligament injury in his right leg," the royal club wrote in a statement on Monday, without specifying the duration of his absence.
Spanish newspaper AS reported the possibility of his absence between "two weeks and three weeks".
Real Madrid return to the competition after the international stop on October 20 against Levante in the local league, and then host the 3-day Victoria Blazen in the third round of the Champions League, before the Clasico and Barcelona on 28.
Benzema had to leave the pitch after the break against Alaves, leaving his place for Diomianico Mariano Diaz.
