Scotland announces the discovery of the mad cow virus in the country
The local government of Scotland announced on Thursday the discovery of mad cow disease in one of the country's farms, Sky News reported.
Scottish authorities have reported bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), known as mad cow disease, on a farm in the eastern Aberdenshire area.
Strict restrictions have been imposed on the farm where the infection has been recorded, while medical bodies continue extensive investigation to detect the source of the disease, according to the newspaper "Independent" British.
Agriculture Minister Virgos Edwin said the government had activated a program to protect the agricultural sector and imposed a ban on the farm where the infection had been recorded in an effort to curb possible spread.
Scotland has not reported a BSE for nearly a decade.
Animal health experts have indicated that the type of inflammation that has been observed recently is a common type that does not pose a danger to human health.
