Svetolina wins the Masters title
Ukraine's Elena Svetolina, the seventh seed in the world, won the women's singles final of the women's tennis tournament on Sunday with a 6-6, 6-2 6-2 victory over American Sloan Stevens.
The 24-year-old champion of the tournament is Singapore, the number 13 in her career, and the fourth in this year, after Brisbane, Australia, Dubai, UAE and Rome.
Svetolina is the first player since Serena Williams in 2013 to win a clean record of loss. Stevens also reached the final without losing a game.
"This is a very special moment for me," said Svetolina after winning the title. "I made a fantastic tennis this week ... This will give me a lot of confidence because I finished the season in an advanced position."
Svetiolina has never surpassed the quarter-finals in a major tournament, and this stage in French Roland Garros in 2015 and 2017, and Australia Open in 2018.
