The death toll from Hurricane Michael hit the coast of Florida on Wednesday, accompanied by the heaviest winds in the South American state in more than a century, authorities said.

Hurricane Michael stunned many as it advanced northward over the Gulf of Mexico and reached the northwest coast of Mexico City at about 1:40 pm Eastern Time (1740 GMT) with a fourth-class hurricane.
The National Hurricane Center said the storm could cause waves to rise to about 4.3 meters above normal in some areas.
