The Indonesian plane disaster Details of the 13-minute journey and its course
A passenger plane belonging to the Indonesian airline Leon Air crashed in the sea during a flight from the capital Jakarta to the city of Bancal Penang on the island of Sumatra on Monday morning, the Indonesian search and rescue agency said.
"We were sure it crashed," said Yusuf Latif, a spokesman for the agency. The plane, carrying 188 people, crashed in a text message when asked about the fate of the plane.
He added that the contact lost the plane 13 minutes after taking off, and its debris was found at a lost contact point.
An official with Indonesia's Transport Safety Commission said the crash was still unknown, noting the plane was "relatively new."
The head of the Indonesian search and rescue agency that it is not possible to confirm the existence of any survivors of the Indonesian plane crash.
The Flight Radar site pointed out that the Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, while Boeing said in a tweet on Twitter that it was aware of the Indonesian plane incident and was following the situation closely.
