Turkish army kills 23 Kurdish militants in northern Iraq
Turkish military aircraft launched air strikes on northern Iraq on Wednesday, killing 23 militants of the PKK.
The military announced on Twitter that the air strikes targeted several areas in the north of the southern neighbor of Turkey, including Kandil mountains, a stronghold of the party, which is classified by Ankara as a terrorist.
Turkey has carried out repeated strikes on PKK bases in northern Iraq in recent months and has resumed its military campaign against Kurdish forces in northern Syria, which it says is linked to PKK militants.
On Wednesday, Kurdish fighters backed by Washington in Syria said they would temporarily suspend their campaign on the last part of the territory under the control of the Da'ash organization in northeastern Syria.
Syria's democratic forces accused Turkey of supporting "advancing" militants, saying in a statement it was responsible for "the temporary suspension of the counter-terrorism battle being waged by our forces against the last bastion of extremist organization."
"Such attacks on Kurdish sites will cause a long-term suspension of our military campaign," the statement said.
