Turkish Foreign Ministry: Riyadh agreed to allow the inspection of its consulate headquarters

The Turkish Foreign Ministry announced that Riyadh has agreed to allow the Turkish authorities to inspect the headquarters of its consulate in Istanbul, and confirms that the investigation into the disappearance of the latter "is under way."

Turkey has agreed to allow the Turkish authorities to inspect the headquarters of its consulate in Istanbul as part of cooperation in investigations into the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the foreign ministry said.

"Saudi Arabia will allow the Turkish authorities to inspect the headquarters of the Saudi consulate in Istanbul as part of the cooperation in investigations into the disappearance of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who disappeared a week ago after entering the consular headquarters," Foreign Ministry spokesman Aksoi said.

"Saudi Arabia has told us that they are open to cooperation in the case of Khashoggi's disappearance," the Turkish official said in a statement. "The Saudi consulate in Istanbul will be inspected." Khashoggi's investigation is "under way."

For his part, demanded the leader of the Republican People's Party in Turkey to reconsider relations with Saudi Arabia and the deportation of any diplomat involved in the Khashoggi incident, saying that "the inability of the security establishment to protect foreign journalists issue affects the sovereignty of Turkey."

On Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that "the Saudi consulate can not save itself by saying Khashoggi has left the building."

Erdogan confirmed that the Saudi consulate should "disclose Khashoggi's place and it will do so," explaining that "the prosecution is looking into the records of the arrival and departure of Saudi citizens from Istanbul airport."

In his first statement on the case of Khashoggi's disappearance last Sunday, Erudgan described the matter as very sad, saying he was following the case himself.

Khashoggi disappeared inside the Saudi consulate in Turkey on October 2, and on 6 October the Reuters news agency quoted Turkish sources as saying that the preliminary police assessment indicated that Khashoggi had been killed at the consulate in Istanbul and the body was taken outside.
