Turkish police cars surprise residents of the German capital
Residents in the German capital were surprised by a Turkish police car cruising through the Turkish-dominated areas of Berlin, without authorities intervening to stop them.
The newspaper "The Sun" British, on Wednesday, that the car was seen more than once patrolling the streets of the "Turkish areas" high-end in Berlin, carrying the logo of one of the Turkish police units.
The newspaper said that three BMW vehicles were spotted in three areas around the German capital, carrying the words "Ozil Hricat", meaning the Special Operations Department of the police.
The cars appeared on the streets after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Germany last month, with German officials likely to have the vehicles dedicated to monitoring Erdogan's opponents in Berlin.
German parliamentarian Hakan Tass, of Turkish origin, said he complained to the authorities about the presence of the vehicles, which made Erdogan's critics fear for their safety.
"These vehicles are the idea of the Erdogan regime, and now they are roaming our streets, watching their critics and people feeling worried," said one of the left-wing officials in Germany.
"Hundreds of Turkish intelligence agents live in Germany and report directly to Ankara, which is what frightens many."
Ozil Hricat police or the special operations department of the police were established in 1982 and their personnel are trained to deal with special cases, such as kidnapping and terrorism.
