Hundreds stranded at US airports after canceling 1,240 flights

LONDON (Reuters) - Many holidaymakers in America are stranded at airports on the last day of the Thanksgiving holiday after more than 1,240 flights were canceled due to a blizzard in the Midwest, meteorologists said.
Snow storm warnings have been issued in areas from northeastern Kansas to Chicago, where snow is already falling in some areas, including Kansas, central Missouri, southeastern Nebraska and southern Iowa, said Bob Orafick, a weather expert with the National Weather Service.

The wind speed associated with the storm was 48 to 56 kilometers per hour. Snow is expected to reach 15 to 30 centimeters in these areas.

According to FlyThere.com, more than 1,240 flights to and from the United States have been canceled by Sunday night.
