Old Swiss watches enter battle with Apple

Traditional watchmakers are trying to keep abreast of technological advances and enter the artificial intelligence market, especially after Apple's first smart clock in 2015.
Swiss brands such as Tag Heuer and Swatch are collaborating with major smart software companies such as Intel and Alphabet to provide hybrid models of watches, combining old form and smart functionality.

Sales of old Swiss watches have fallen sharply, especially after the unveiling of the Apple Watch in 2015, which is expected to increase sales to 40 percent next year to 33 million hours, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. .

Tag Heuer launched its first smart phone earlier this year with smart features such as receiving alerts, answering calls and displaying vital signs of the body.

But the company deliberately designed to be a "hybrid", maintaining the old form with the introduction of smart features, and remained touch screen, but the feature of Bluetooth, a product of cooperation with Intel and Google.

Tag Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Beaver said the production of a hybrid clock was a success because it looked like a real clock, but with all the technological features the user needed.

The lowest price for Tag Heuer's hybrid clock is $ 1,200, and the company's chief executive declined to disclose the sales volume for the new hour on world markets.

Smart watch sales outperformed their mechanical counterparts in 2016, while hybrid watch sales rose to 7.5 million worldwide in 2017.

Market research firms predict sales volumes for both smart and hybrid watches will double by 2020.
