US representative detained after "battle" on car position
US actor Alec Baldwin was arrested on Friday and charged with physical assault after allegedly being beaten in the face by a man during a dispute over a parking space outside his home in New York City, authorities said.
The police said that the representative claimed he had a family member waiting for him while he was trying to stop his Cadillac Escalade black at around 1:30 pm. When a man driving a black sedan drove a Saab and parked his car in the same place.
The two men argued and pushed each other before Baldwin, 60, became more aggressive, police said.
The driver of the saloon told the police that Baldwin had hit him with his hand, but he was not sure whether it was a punch or a slap.
Police said the 49-year-old driver was taken to hospital suffering from jaw pain and redness in the neck area.
Baldwin was released from a nearby police station in Greenwich, Manhattan, about two hours after the incident. He was ordered to appear before the court on 26 November.a
