Valverde comments on the Champions League alternative

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde has hailed the excitement of the Champions League after a 1-1 draw with Inter Milan on Tuesday and said there was no need to create a new Super League.
With both teams getting eight European Cups, the game in San Siro attracted the attention of the fans and the standings were up to expectations.

"I have the impression that the Champions League is already like Super League," Valverde told a news conference.

"We saw a technical review tonight on the pitch and in the stands, such high-level matches as tonight's match and our match at Wembley (when Barcelona won 4-2 at Tottenham Hotspur last month)."

The German magazine Der Spiegel reported on Friday that the talk has returned to the agreement of major teams to get out of the Champions League and the establishment of a super-European league.

According to the magazine, the new competition will be held with the participation of 16 teams instead of the Champions League, and will see 11 founders will not land these clubs for 20 years in addition to five teams "invited" including Inter.
