A forced landing of the Melanie Trump
Stephanie Gresham, spokeswoman for the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, said that the First Lady's plane returned to Andrews Air Force Base after a "mechanical problem" on Wednesday.
The passenger cabin was filled with smoke about 15 minutes after the plane took off, and the smell of something burning was spreading in the air, the White House correspondents said.
The plane landed safely shortly after 9 am Eastern Time (1300 GMT).
"All is well, everyone is fine," the spokesman of the First Lady told Reuters.
The first lady, Health and Human Services Minister Alex Azar and others aboard the flight were taken to a second plane, according to a statement by a media representative.
The plane was supposed to land in Philadelphia, where Melania was scheduled to visit Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
