A surprise about the Indonesian plane

Reports show that the Indonesian plane, which crashed off Jakarta on Monday, was the latest aircraft to join the fleet, which entered the service just two months after receiving it from the US company Boeing.
The Boeing 737 is the best-selling US company and the backbone of emerging airlines around the world.

Leon Air took over the 737 Max 8 aircraft in August, according to Indonesia's National Transport Safety Commission, which recorded only 800 flying hours before the fatal accident.

More than 4,000 customers, including the Max 737, are popular with the latest version of the single-aisle aircraft within carriers.

With less fuel consumption and higher reliability than previous models, this model has gained customers in Asia, where many low-cost carriers have emerged over the past decade.

Boeing produces four versions of the Max family, which can accommodate up to 230 passengers and fly up to 6,110 kilometers, according to Boeing's website.

These aircraft use LEAP-1B engines from CFM International, a joint venture between General Electric and Safran.

Among the largest customers in the region are Leon Air Indonesia, SpiceJet India and China Southern Airlines.

On Monday morning, a passenger plane of the same model of the Indonesian company crashed into the sea during a flight from the capital Jakarta to the city of Pankal Penang on the island of Sumatra.

"We were sure it crashed," said Yusuf Latif, a spokesman for the agency. The plane, carrying 188 people, crashed in a text message when asked about the fate of the plane.

He added that the contact lost the plane 13 minutes after taking off, and its debris was found at a lost contact point.

The number of crashes in the 737 Boeing destroyer has been around 208 since 1970, according to the Aviation Safety Network database.
