American Army in Space .. and the date before 2020
US Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday that the space force that Donald Trump wants to set up will initially be a "unified command," a step lower than originally planned by the Sixth Army.
He explained at a meeting of the National Space Council, which Trump escaped dust last year, that the US administration intends to create an independent space force before 2020.
In the first phase of Congress, the president will seek to bring together military and civilian personnel working in the field of space security under unified command, like the Special Forces.
"The National Space Council recommended the president to start establishing a unified space command, as we did with special forces," the vice president said.
President Trump wants to create a space development agency that will cost technology development, "he said.
He added that about 60 thousand people are currently interested in space security distributed across the various branches of the armed forces and the intelligence services.
"In the first instance, it is not like other military branches," he said. "In future, Congress and future governments can develop space power and make it as big as it wants."
Congress must approve this option, which is different from the immediate establishment of a space army, such as air and ground armies, an option that would create divisions among parliamentarians.
The US administration will work with Congress to vote on the law for an independent force "by 2020," Bens said.
He explained to the National Council: "Space is a field of war as the land, air and sea, and America will be dominant in it as it is in the ground."
He referred to space threats (anti-satellite weapons, laser and missiles) and to Washington's competitors in space (Russia and China).
