Cakes are made as a "grandmother's ashes." The police ask, "What's the crime?"
A high school student in California was reported to have given cakes to her classmates in flames on a fire that ignited the remains of her grandmother.
Police are investigating reports of the student at the Da Vinci High School in Davis, California.
Police officer Paul Paul Doroshov told Fox News that police were investigating at least two students who alleged they had carried out the terrible act.
One of the families told Fox 40 that her son had come home and told them that another schoolgirl claimed to have given the cake to the classmates after she had baked it on the fire that contained the remains of her grandmother and had given them the cakes two weeks ago.
"The student was telling everyone about it," the student said, adding that the cakes she gave them were baked in the ashes of her grandmother.
Police believe that at least nine students ate sugar cakes.
The parents of the student expressed their displeasure with the way the school dealt with the matter. They said that after the administration questioned their son, the administration asked them to remain silent about the matter and to promise not to inform anyone.
School principal Tyler Maslab said in a statement Tuesday that the priority is the safety and health of students, and students who ate the cakes are not exposed to any health risks.
The statement said that the students involved in this matter feel remorse and that it is personal and family, and that the school respects the privacy of families involved.
Police have not arrested anyone so far, but indicated that the biggest challenge now is to charge if the school wants to do so.
But the question for the police now is "What is the crime?"
