Confiscation of 500 tons of fake and illegal drugs in the world
Police coordinated raids in 116 countries have resulted in the confiscation of 500 tons of illegal drugs available online, including fake cancer drugs, fake analgesics and illegal syringes, the International Police Organization (Interpol) said.
Interpol, based in the French city of Lyon, said the operation led to the arrest of 859 people and the confiscation of potentially dangerous medical drugs worth about $ 14 million.
"The operation, which focused on courier services used by organized crime networks, has resulted in the closure of 3,671 electronic links, including websites and pages on social networking sites and e-markets," the organization said.
In the past few years, illegal drug trafficking has grown on the Internet, with criminal gangs diversifying their methods and seeking to discover new customers through the Internet.
This is the second major drug-related operation carried out by Interpol this month.
