For the second day .. Searching for the lost American plane

US Coast Guard ships and aircraft continued to search the Atlantic Ocean for a civilian jet that crashed Friday after a flight tracking site showed that the plane tried to return to South Carolina before disappearing from the radar screen.
The Coast Guard searched for a larger perimeter of the Delaware state but found no trace of the Piper-31 civilian aircraft and landed at around 11:30 am EDT on Thursday as it headed for the Bahamas from South Carolina.

The coastguard disappeared from the radar screen 177 kilometers east of Charleston after it informed air traffic controllers of an emergency, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

The Federal Aviation Administration declined to comment on the number of people aboard.
