Gerrard Pique said on Wednesday that the focus on the new Davis Cup format should focus on teams rather than on individuals, reducing fears that key players such as Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic could not be included in the revised version next year.
Federer, who won 20 Grand Slam titles, ruled out the Davis Cup co-sponsored by Barcelona's Cosmos Investment Group and was surprised in August by Spain's "intervention" in the tennis tournament.
Madrid will host the first two editions of the 118-year-old tournament in 2019 and 2020, and the finals will be held for a week in November.
"We want to focus on the teams rather than the individuals, the focus is on the players who represent their countries and are working to form the best possible team," Pique said at the launch ceremony in Madrid.
"We want competition between the teams, which is always the case, the Davis Cup has made it a success for 118 years because of the national teams," he told AFP.
Jokovic, the world number two, said he would give "priority" to the World Cup in Australia, which will be held in January 2020.
The Serbian player, players such as Alexander Zverev, have been critical of the timing of the revised Davis Cup, which comes at the end of a busy schedule and at the time of most players' rest in preparation for the new season.
"Djokovic is very important because he is the ATP chairman," Pique concluded by saying: "I have a positive feeling about him, we are close, although we need to continue talking so that we can understand each other better."
