German police closed the area around a major train station in Cologne, west Germany, after holding a hostage and hearing the sound of gunfire on Monday.
Deutsche Bahn, the state-owned railway operator, said Monday that the main railway station in the western German city of Cologne had been closed after police said it was investigating a suspected hostage.
"The police operation is disrupting the railway, the main station in Cologne has been closed," she said on Twitter.
The company said it was not clear how long the police operation would continue.
According to local sources, the incident took place inside or near a pharmacy in the Preslauer Platz area near the train station, and that someone was held hostage in a pharmacy, and the sound of gunfire was heard....
