Lopegeti to the players of Real Madrid and his successor on the way to Madrid
MADRID (Reuters) - Real Madrid coach Julien Lobetigi has given up for the Real Madrid team after the club's 1-0 defeat to Barcelona on Sunday night at Camp Nou, the Spanish daily Marca said.
Lopegeti told the players in a meeting after the game, thanking them for their efforts during the four and a half months they worked together, expecting to be sacked after the big loss and poor results with Real Madrid since taking over the technical department.
But since the decision to dismiss was not officially issued, Lobetigi told his players that he would reserve them "reserve" before boarding his plane back to the Spanish capital.
Marca confirmed that the decision to dismiss Lopegeti will be taken today, after a meeting between club president Florentino Perez and officials of the Royal Club.
Peres left the Camp Nou in Barcelona after the end of the game without talking to the coach or players.
The newspaper said Real Madrid would sign Italian coach Antonio Conte, and that the latter was on his way to Madrid after solving the financial problems in his old contract from Chelsea.
She said assistant coach Santiago Solari would oversee the training on Monday before the King's Cup match against Melilla on Wednesday.
