NEW YORK - A week has not happened in decades

New York City achieved an important security achievement over the weekend, for the first time in 25 years on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays without firing a single bullet into the giant metropolis.
New York police chief James O'Neill said the last weekend without shooting in the city was before 1993, so New Yorkers have a right to be proud because the credit is not only due to security.

For his part, New York Mayor Bill de Palacio described the lack of shooting at the end of the week as extraordinary, especially as the city's population is 8.6 million, Sky News reported.

According to police statistics, New York recorded 600 shootings from the beginning of this year to the seventh of October.

The right to bear arms raises a constitutional and human rights debate in the United States. While defenders cling to what they consider to be self-defense, critics say the chaos is killing about 30,000 people each year.
