Palestine .. Archiving 18 thousand documents digitally in different fields
The Palestinian Museum announced Monday that it has managed to archive 18,000 Palestinian documents in various fields as part of the museum's digital archive project.
"This is the first phase of the three-year digital archival project as a founding period during which 145,000 documents will be collected," he said in a statement.
"The digital archive is one of the most important digital platforms of the Palestinian Museum. It includes photographs, documents, collections and works of art belonging to archival groups that are threatened to document the history of Palestine from 1800 until the present day."
"The mechanism of work on the project is to collect documents from individuals and institutions, create digital synonyms for each document, and attach them to information on a digital platform for the project, will be launched to be available to researchers, interested and the public in early 2019.
The museum divides the archived material into 67 collections, divided into personal, family, institutional groups, and other specialized researchers and photographers.
"This project is considered a qualitative leap in the context of documenting the Palestinian archives," said Adelah Al-Ayadi, director of the museum.
"Over the next few years, the museum will provide the Palestinians and those interested around the world with a reliable and almost comprehensive reference to the history, political, social and cultural history of Palestine," she added.
She pledged to use "all the possibilities in the Palestinian Museum to ensure continuity of work on this project and expand it, and to bring it out to the public in the best possible way."
The project is being implemented by a grant from the Arcadia Fund, a charitable fund founded by Lesbiet Rausing and Peter Baldwe, which aims to preserve the world's endangered cultural heritage, the museum said.
"It is an independent cultural institution devoted to promoting an open and vibrant Palestinian culture at the local and international levels," said the Palestinian Museum on its website.
"It is one of the most important contemporary cultural projects in Palestine and one of the most important projects of Al-Taawun, a non-profit, non-profit organization."
