Turkish player raises controversy by commenting "the opening of Constantinople"

A Turkish soccer player sparked a storm of controversy in the country after the city of Istanbul was called "Constantinople", which was called the days of the Byzantine Empire.
Ankara's Kanean Ozer, left after Ankara's 3-1 victory over Fenerbahce from Istanbul, was suspended on Sunday, according to the Turkish daily Hurriyet.

"Constantinople has been successfully opened, thank God," the player said through his account at Instagram.

But the Turkish player did not like much of the Turks and angered them, forcing him to turn his account into a private website.

Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey, took the name of the Roman emperor Constantine before 1453 AD, when it became Istanbul after the Ottoman campaign.
