Pentagon announces exposure to "electronic piracy"
The Pentagon said it was investigating an electronic breach of some of its travel records in a manner that led to the disclosure of personal information.
Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Pocino confirmed Friday that some "personal identification information" had been breached after a "single contractor" site had been compromised.
He explained that the breach did not affect only a small percentage of workers and that the Pentagon is investigating, while the military leadership was informed of this breach on the fourth of last October.
A federal government report said last week that the Pentagon was slow to protect key weapon systems from cyber attacks and warned of critical vulnerabilities in those systems that could be exploited by hackers.
More recently, Western countries have issued co-convictions for Russia and accused them of running a global crackdown on institutions such as sports doping regulators, a nuclear power company, and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
In an unprecedented escalation against Moscow since World War II, Britain said Russia had turned into a "rogue state."
