Rare child disease hits 22 US states
US doctors have warned of a rare disease in children paralyzed, as they confirmed the existence of cases of mysterious disease in 22 states, according to US media reported on Sunday.
Doctors are trying to figure out the underlying causes of the disease, which affects only one in a million children, but it has become a concern for many parents, according to the Lexington, Kentucky, US site.
The children's neonatal hospital in Wilville, Kentucky, confirmed that doctors last month treated three children (aged 3 to 8) who were suffering from the disease, opening the door to hope for other patients.
With no vaccine or known cure for the disease so far, there is increasing concern among parents, especially as medical sources confirm cases of the same disease in 22 US states.
Dr. Anthony Fussie, an infectious disease specialist, assured parents that the disease is rare and that its risk should not be intimidated.
Symptoms of this disease include fever and stomach problems, which later develop into polio-like symptoms, including muscle weakness and slow reactions.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States called on parents to report this type of disease immediately, as children can recover quickly.
The doctors confirmed that although the symptoms of the disease similar to the symptoms of polio, the polio virus is not the cause, and doctors have not yet reached the reasons.
Doctors are advised to take some defensive measures to avoid this disease, by washing hands as much as possible and taking necessary vaccinations regularly and avoiding crowded places.
