"Simpson" respond to pressure .. and give up Abu "Indian"

According to technical reports, the cartoon series "Simpson" removed the character of "Abu" after it sparked controversy about the inflamed feelings of "racism" and "ethnic sensitivities."
IndyWire, quoting one of the producers of the American series, said the character was excluded from the series to avoid the uproar that has been raised in recent times.

"Abu" appeared during the 1990s, embodying the role of an Indian-American merchant known for his Asian accent and his famous phrase "Thank you, we visited again."

Last year, director Harry Kondrapulo released a documentary that reveals the cartoon's contribution to the publication of prejudices about Indians and Asians.

The director called for the Asian character to be permanently deleted instead of making changes and presenting them differently than those accustomed to following the series.

Representative Hank Azaria said he was surprised by what he had heard about the prejudices associated with the character, so he preferred to stay away from them after he was upset.

"He visited India twice and talked about the cartoon character to the public," he said. "Things went on normally," he said. "I know there is a difference between Indians and their American Indians."
