For the first time, the US federal judiciary opened an investigation into sexual assaults by Catholic clergy, and the judiciary summoned officials from the parish of Pennsylvania for this purpose, two months after a report on decades of abuses within the Church of the State was published.
The Philadelphia Philharmonic announced on Thursday that it had received an invitation to appear before a federal jury, saying it would cooperate in the case, without giving details. According to AFP.
The Church of Greensburg in western Pennsylvania, for its part, that it had received an invitation to appear in court, noting that it was "not surprised" after the report, "appalling" published.
"The victims, the parishioners and the public want proof ... that every diocese has taken extensive and decisive measures to ensure better protection for children," she said.
It was not immediately possible to contact the other six blankets in the state, but the American media reported that five of them confirmed that they received invitations to appear before the judiciary, declaring its willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
In mid-August, the Pennsylvania Public Prosecution published a report detailing abuses and abuses committed by more than 300 priests on more than 1,000 children.
The impact has been mobilized among public prosecutors in several US states, including New York and New Jersey, where a majority of Catholics reside. They have asked their bishops to collaborate, access their archives and have called on witnesses to reveal what they know.
