"I hope that this (Bolton's visit to Moscow) will give a boost to the stability of relations between Russia and the United States," Schweiggo said in a meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for National Security John Bolton on Tuesday.
He expressed his belief that even the very small steps will be in favor of relations between the two sides and the resumption of confidence between them, noting that "there are in the modern world many issues that can be solved by Russia and the United States together."
"It's about strategic issues like nuclear deterrence and the big old-fashioned settlement issues."
The Russian minister said that the US military and the Russians are still in constant contact to resolve vital issues, pointing out that this concerns above all the situation in Syria.
For his part, Bolton said he considered the Russian-American talks on ending the conflict in Syria a success, expressing his hope to expand dialogue between the two sides and discuss other topics.
US Defense Secretary Jim Matisse also hoped to continue his dialogue with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shweigo.
On Monday, John Bolton held a five-hour meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, during which he discussed many topics, from new versions of the missile treaty, to the recent US accusations against Russian citizenship, Yelena Khosyanova, to intervene in the US elections.
