After the attack, "the birth of the Prophet" .. A bombing shaking a mosque in eastern Afghanistan

Three days after the deadly attack at a celebration of the birth of the Prophet in the Afghan capital, Kabul, rocked a mosque in the eastern province of Khost, during Friday prayers, killing at least 27 people.
The blast occurred at a mosque in an Afghan army base during Friday prayers, the official Associated Press news agency reported, quoting official spokesmen.

Some of the injured were taken to hospital in the provincial capital of Khost, while four helicopters were sent to the scene to transport the other wounded to Kabul.

No one immediately claimed the blast, but the Taliban regularly launched attacks in the eastern province of Afghanistan, bordering Pakistan's tribal region.

On Tuesday, a suicide bomber blew himself up at a celebration of the Prophet's birth in Kabul, killing 55 people, mostly clerics, in one of the bloodiest attacks in the capital in months.

Video footage of the assault showed a huge ball of flame appearing at the beginning of the ceremony, during a recitation of the Holy Qur'an, and then, the cries of the wounded came out in the place.

The Afghan authorities have yet to identify the attacker and the Taliban have denied responsibility.

The Taliban and the terrorist group had previously targeted clerics in support of the Afghan government.

"So far we do not know which militant group could be responsible for the attack," said a senior security official who was at the scene of the attack this morning to gather forensic evidence.

It was not clear whether the aim was simply to undermine the government of President Ashraf Ghani, or whether it was part of a strategy to keep pressure on his government and its Western allies as they sought talks with the Taliban to end the 17-year war.
