Child with an adult

The baby, Dafi Reid, 3, is awaiting an unknown future after having undergone 22 surgeries in the course of his short life to drain excess fluid around his brain, making his head grow to the size of an adult's head.
Doctors diagnosed the disease in Reid, who lives in Pennsylvania, when he was 14 months old, causing a deadly fluid build-up in his brain, the Daily Mail reported on Sunday.

One of the baby's operations has enlarged the structure of his skull to the extent that it does not fit the 22-inch adult hat (55.88 cm).

The average head circumference of a 3-year-old is 19 inches (48.26 centimeters), which means that the baby's head has grown at least three inches (7.62 centimeters), according to the World Health Organization.

Doctors discovered, using magnetic resonance imaging, a large bag at the back of the Reed brain in April 2016, causing the accumulation of fluid inside his skull and called for surgical intervention.

In May of the same year doctors managed to move the fluid from his brain, then inserted a metal plate to expand his skull and relieve the pressure in his head in September last year.

Doctors said they feared the child would hit a body or hit his head and said he would not be able to play as freely as other children at that age.

The large number of studies carried out during the short period of his life has affected his balance and may affect his cognitive development, leaving his parents with fears in the future.

His mother, 29, and his father David, 39, said they were worried about whether he would be admitted to school or not, especially as many passers-by commented on his appearance in the public domain.
