Florida Gov. Andrew Gillum, the Democratic candidate for governor of Florida, was defeated by Republican Rep. Ron de Santis after several recounts that took place since the November 6 legislative elections.
"I want to congratulate Ron de Santis, who will become the next governor of the great state of Florida," said the mayor of Tallahassee, who had hoped to become the first black governor of the southeastern state.
In the end, I think we will win, I am thankful to each of you, "Gillum said in a message posted on Facebook.
Votes were re-counted in these elections, given the close results obtained by the two candidates. The final results are expected to be announced Sunday.
