The US Coast Guard announced the seizure of about 18.5 tons of cocaine worth 500 million dollars in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
He explained that the seized drugs were taken from the Coast Guard James ship at Port Everglades Port in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Thursday.
The Coast Guard said last Friday that many Coast Guard vessels helped control drugs, off the coast of Mexico and Central and South America.
Reuters quoted the Miami Herald newspaper as saying that authorities had arrested about 49 suspects and would be tried in South Florida.
Cocaine is still one of the most common drugs in the United States, with the largest amount of the drug being consumed worldwide, federal officials said.
