Iran vows women "ear ass and cat's eye"

Iranian officials have vowed that girls who undergo "strange" beautifications of skin and imprisonment, in conjunction with a law introduced by a parliamentary committee, will criminalize doctors involved in the operations.
Iran's top lawmaker Hassan Norouzi said authorities would resort to jail and flogging those who opt for plastic surgery, "non-Islamic," the Telegraph newspaper reported Wednesday.

Nurozi, spokesman for the Judicial Committee of the Iranian parliament, said that surgeons who engage in "cat's eyes" and "donkey ears" will be stripped of their licenses.

The Iranian move, described by many as "strange," comes at a time when the Judicial Committee of the Iranian parliament is drafting a new law to limit cosmetic operations among Iranians.

Iran is one of the world's highest performing rhinoplasty surgeries, with an estimated 40,000 people a year, mostly women.

In the past few years, the number of Iranian men undergoing cosmetic surgery has increased, mostly to change the shape of their noses, remove stomach fat, or reshape eyebrows.

According to the new bill, those wishing to undergo facelifts will be required to obtain permission from a judge, which was met with a high level of displeasure on the Iranian street.

"Some of our young people are now obsessed with changing their appearance," said Nurozi, "from now on they have to go to the family court and get a license for any cosmetic surgery."

"Violations will include imprisonment from 10 days to two months or 74 lashes," he said.
