Japan: "alarming" number of the phenomenon of "suicide students"

The Ministry of Education in Japan has announced an increase in the number of suicides among young people in the country to reach the highest level in 30 years.
According to official figures, 250 students in the elementary, preparatory and secondary levels committed suicide during the past year, the highest number since 1986, reaching 268 students.

According to Japanese reports, the causes of suicide varied between 33 cases because of the so-called "fear of the future," 31 cases due to family disputes, and 10 cases of bullying, while 140 remained unknown reasons.

The phenomenon of "young suicide" is a major concern for officials in Japan, Reuters reported, especially as it coincides with the overall decline in suicide rates in the country 15 years ago.

The total number of suicides in Japan in 2017 was about 21,321 people, while 2003 was the worst in the history of the country, where the police recorded that year more than 34 thousand suicides.
