Mourinho defends Juventus fans after "stunning victory"

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has defended his sarcasm from Juventus fans after his stunning back-to-back win to beat Italy 2-1 and boost their hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League.
"If you understand the Italian language, you will know that I have been insulted for 90 minutes," Mourinho told reporters after telling Juventus fans after the game that he wanted to hear their voice, causing them to be booed.

"Maybe I should not have done that, even if I was quiet, but they insulted my family, including my family at Inter, and I reacted accordingly."

Mourinho's reaction comes on the day that the FA said it would challenge a penalty for pronouncing offensive words against television cameras during a 3-2 win at Newcastle United last month.

An independent commission acquitted Mourinho of the charge on October 31 after consulting Portuguese specialists.

Mourinho appeared to be sending a secret message to the FA when asked in an interview after the match with PT Sport about his references to Juventus fans and his reluctance with some of the Italian players after the game.

"Do you understand Italian? Maybe you should ask for translation from the FA."

Awesome win

Despite the return of two goals from Juventus and the rescue of David de Chia many opportunities, Mourinho said he was satisfied with the performance of his team after the Italian beat him and won him 1-0 two weeks ago at Old Trafford.

"It's a stunning win for us and it's not just about the points that my team lost at home.

"I think that even if we did not win that match, I would be happy too because the team played very well since the first minute against a stunning opponent."

The thrilling finish in Turin ended a stunning series from the heart of United's late victory in a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Marcus Rushford on Saturday and also to Newcastle last month.

The win was typical of what United were doing under former coach Alex Ferguson and would prepare the team well to face Manchester City leaders on Sunday.
