Sudan increases flour subsidies to cut bread prices

Sudan has boosted flour subsidies by 40 percent after a cut in subsidies this year caused bread prices to rise and sparked street protests, the Finance Ministry said on Saturday.
A ministry statement said the government would spend 35 million Sudanese pounds ($ 737,000) a day instead of 25 million.

The decision to cut bread subsidies this year has led to rare protests across the country after bread prices have doubled.

Inflation jumped to a record 66 percent in August, one of the highest in the world.
