Total confirms its commitment to US sanctions on Iran
The French company Total, one of the oil companies supplying aircraft at Beirut International Airport, confirmed that it "adheres to US sanctions" on Iran.
"Fuel suppliers at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut are contractually bound to comply with any sanctions list issued by the United Nations, the European Union or the United States," the company told Sky News Arab.
Among the sanctions imposed by Total are to refrain from supplying Iranian aircraft at the Lebanese airport with fuel.
Last August, TOTAL officially withdrew from Iran after the United States threatened to impose sanctions on companies operating in Tehran.
Washington has threatened any company dealing with Iran's oil or banking sector to be blacklisted in the United States.
Last week, the US announced the start of the second sanctions package on Tehran after the first package was imposed months ago as part of a US strategy to paralyze the regime's ability in Tehran to continue destabilizing activities in the region.
