Who will decide the next world war? A US report is a surprise
Although the United States boasts of an unrivaled arsenal, a recent report by a committee created by Congress warned of a "serious decline" in US military capabilities recently.
The report was issued Wednesday by a bipartisan committee in the United States whose goal is to assess US President Donald Trump's defense strategy.
In a shocking surprise to the Americans, the report is likely to lose the United States to any war it may waged against China or Russia, noting "the suffering of the US military losses in the next world war."
The US military "will suffer a lot if it is forced to fight on two fronts or more at the same time," the report said.
The National Defense Strategy Committee recommended restructuring the US military to be able to compete with Beijing and Moscow in the war zone, the Washington Post reported.
One of the findings of the Commission is that the military balance is no longer in the interest of the United States in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, which would undermine the confidence of allies in Washington.
The Committee warned that the slow pace of US steps in responding to changes on the international scene and the development of competitors could lead to further decline in the military dominance of the United States, coinciding with the keenness of Russia and China to build defense forces directed directly to the United States.
The committee urged the Pentagon to provide a full explanation of the mechanisms it would adopt to overcome the major powers competing in the war, condemning what it called "dubious assumptions and poor assessment."
Members of the committee deplored the effort to restructure the US defense establishment to meet challenges, despite the $ 716 billion US defense budget this year, which is 4 times that of China and 10 times that of Russia.
"The US Navy should strengthen its fleet, especially the submarines, and the air force should provide more reconnaissance platforms, fighters, bombers and long-range destroyers, while the military will have to add more long-range missiles, logistics capabilities and defense weapons," the committee said. Air. "
The committee's proposals include updating the US nuclear arsenal and appointing a Pentagon official to oversee the development of air defenses.
